How Alex Morgan Winds Down to Help Her Get a Good Night's Sleep

It's no secret that we love a good morning routine. We've come to learn, however, that the rituals we do to wind down before bed are just as important. Whether you take 10 minutes or a few hours, it's precious time that you have set aside at the end of the day to take care of yourself. Our series Weekend Wind-Down highlights the nightly routines of the people we admire.

With two World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal under her belt, soccer phenom, Alex Morgan is undeniably one of the best and most fearless athletes. This month, Morgan, who currently plays for the Orlando Pride and the U.S. National Women's Team, is competing on the world's biggest arena, the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

And, with the demanding schedules that often lend themselves to a professional athlete and a new parent (she welcomed her daughter, Charlie, last year), Morgan is extra mindful of the time she sets aside for rest and self-care. One of the most important ways she takes care of herself is by getting a good night's sleep so she can be her best self, on and off the field.

Keep scrolling to see the rest of the restorative rituals Morgan uses to wind down.

When I come home after practice, I'll usually make or order food for the family. Veggie tacos are one of our easy, go-to dinners, since my daughter, Charlie, loves beans, rice, and avocado. Another family favorite dinner is the sweet potato and black bean enchiladas from Minimalist Baker. It's incredibly delicious, filling, and an all-around winner in our household.

Charlie loves her bath time, so we will spend as much time as she wants in there, which is usually around 15 mins or so. After, we'll read a few books or FaceTime with her cousins or grandparents, before giving her a bottle for bedtime. I love to sing her a few songs, as she's drifting off to sleep.

Now, it's time for me to wind down. Some nights, I'll spend 5 to 10 minutes focusing on my breathwork and meditating with Calm. Other nights, I'll work on programming for my iFIT series, Train Like a Pro, or catching up on emails and texts.

I also love to just enjoy a conversation with my husband over a glass of wine, a bottle of Michelob Ultra, or sparkling water.

We will watch whatever soccer games are on TV, or if there aren't any live sports, we will watch one of our favorite shows. Lately, we've been into Schitt's Creek, Ted Lasso, and The Undoing. I also almost always stretch/foam roll or practice some yoga as I get ready for bed.

Now it's time for bed! Sleep is crucial to me and it's why I prioritize the mattress and the sheets I sleep on. For the most restorative sleep, I have a Molecule 2 AirTec Mattress, since it really supports my body for a great recovery. I'm also so picky about my pillows, and the Molecule Infinity Pro Pillow is truly one of the coolest.
