Bondi Beach may be one of the most iconic beaches in Australia, but Pilates instructor and fitness YouTuber Bailey Brown is one of the lucky ones who don't call the Sydney town a vacation destination, but home. She sure doesn't take it for granted. The native-born Canadian has found ways to incorporate her paradise turned hometown into her morning wellness routine by waking up with barefoot walks in the sand and oceanview meditations. With perks like those, who wouldn't be a morning person? Keep reading for her exact morning routine, in her own words.
I am a bit of a night owl, so I usually wake up around 8 a.m. The first thing I think of when I open my eyes is coffee. I know a lot of people in the wellness world swear by their lemon water, but coffee is my ride-or-die. I will brush my teeth, chug water, put on activewear, and head out to my local coffee shop in Bondi, where I’ll grab a long black with almond or coconut milk.
I like to take a morning walk along the beach with my coffee and then sit on the rocks and do my morning routine. Lately, I've gotten really into doing a guided meditation in the morning. Then, I will do a gratitude activity from the book The Magic by Rhonda Byrne. It’s made up of 28 days of gratitude exercises that are amazing. These two things help me get my mindset right, start the day off on a positive note, and make me feel like I can take on whatever the day throws at me.
Workout time! I love working out in the morning. I have a YouTube channel where I post all my home workouts that are a combo of HIIT and Pilates-style toning and lengthening exercises. There are over 50 options on my channel, so I always just pick one of these depending on what I’m in the mood for! Today I’m doing a 25-minute cardio toning workout and 10-minute mat abs workout. Days I’m short on time, I do a five-minute butt lift workout. Honestly, just five minutes of breaking a sweat can make all the difference in your day.
Post-workout, I shower and start my skincare routine, which involves cleansing, using my rose quartz face roller, and applying some SPF and tinted moisturizer.
Next, I eat some breakfast. I tend to be a late night snacker, so I don’t typically wake up hungry. I’m a big believer in intuitive eating and listening to my body, so I always wait until I feel hungry to eat. I try to have a protein, a fat, high-fiber carbs, and/or veggies in all of my meals to keep my blood sugar stable and keep me energized all day long. Today I’m making my go-to smoothie: It’s frozen cauliflower rice (you don’t taste it, I promise!), almond milk, chia seeds, a handful of spinach, vanilla protein, and almond butter. Love this combo—so delicious and tastes like a milkshake, seriously.
This is when I’ll usually start working. I’ll go through any emails I have, and then spend the rest of my day editing workout videos, teaching Pilates clients, filming for YouTube and more. No two days are the same for me, so having a consistent morning routine really helps me with whatever I have on later that day.
