Supermodel Barbara Palvin's Wellness Routine Includes an Unexpected Twist

When it comes to wellness, every person has their own "thing." Whether it's a strict schedule of vitamins and supplements, a rigid routine of exercise and meditation, or something a bit more laissez-faire like booking a massage when the mood strikes, there's something to be said for figuring out what works best for an individual's lifestyle, budget, and personal needs.

It may come as a bit of a surprise to learn that supermodel Barbara Palvin is no exception. During the past year and a half, the pandemic gave her the opportunity to reflect and the time and space in which to do so. While jet-setting around the globe was put on an indefinite pause, Palvin and her longtime boyfriend, Dylan Sprouse, built their dream home from scratch and chronicled the efforts in their Instagram series, "Breaking Ground." Amid the tranquility of rural America, the Hungarian-born model reconnected with nature and, in doing so, honed her personal wellness routine. In fact, she got it down to a bit of a science.

We caught up with Palvin following the launch of her newest project, a beautifully shot campaign for Tequila Dahlia Cristalino along with fellow models Gizele Oliveira and Stella Maxwell, and discussed the detoxing powers of charcoal—yep, even when consumed in a cocktail.

During COVID-19, did you have any particular wellness rituals that you practiced at home?

Yes, I kept up the same routines and rituals that I always do, which include working out at home, a lot of Pilates, and stretching.

I also did my regular skincare routine, but since I had more time, I made a habit of setting my intentions for the day, used face rollers more frequently, and learned some facial-massage techniques. Little things like that can make a big difference.

Reading is also something that soothes my mind and soul.

What memorable adventures that you shared on "Breaking Ground With Dylan and Barbara" do you plan on continuing in the future?

Oh, wow. So many! I’m really happy, that I’m able to share these adventures and memories with Dylan and the Instagram community. I definitely love the one when Dylan visited my hometown and my parents, the one where Dylan bought a shed that fell way short of expectations, and last but not least when we met a well witch and we discovered groundwater on our land! That was mind-blowing!

I can’t say too much more about this project and building our home, but please keep your eyes open—there's more to come.

Now that the world is opening up again, what are some ways you are maintaining your self-care habits while also getting back out there and being social?

I’m very happy that the world is opening up a little bit. I’m grateful to see my family more now; it always makes me happy and fills my heart with unconditional love. I’m also very excited to see my friends again and spend some quality time with everyone when we can travel safely.

Of course, it's been great to spend time "off the grid" in a way, too. Over the past year and through the process of building a house in a remote part of the country, I've realized that being outdoors is great for my mental health. Now, I try to go outside more, go on a hike, work out, do my self-care routines as regularly as possible.

This summer, what three products will we find in your beach bag?

Lip balm, a good book, and SPF, always!

What are your favorite swimsuit styles or trends this season?

I definitely love animal-print bikinis. But a black one-piece swimsuit with some special details, like being backless or with extra-thin straps, is always classic.

There are a lot of unexpected natural ingredients that can be found in "clean" beauty products. Is there anything you look for when considering adding something new to your routine?

Yes, definitely. I like products that include charcoal for its ability to draw out toxins and remove impurities. I look for it in face masks and toothpaste, where it's used for its brightening effect.

Also, in case you didn’t know, Dahlia Tequila is filtered through activated charcoal.

Can you actually taste the difference?

Absolutely. I think the charcoal filtration process gives the tequila its purity and balance, which makes for its signature and clean taste! It’s really special.

Do you have a favorite "clean" Dahlia Tequila recipe we can share?

I love the Dahlia margarita. It is super simple yet super tasty—remember to use Tajín or chili salt on the rim of the glass for a little something extra.

The Dahlia Margarita

1 1/2 oz. Dahlia Tequila

1/2 oz. orange juice

1/2 oz. Licor 43

1 oz. lime juice

1/2 oz. agave nectar

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a shaker tin with ice. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Strain into glass. Garnish with a lime wedge. Optional Tajín or chili salt rim.
