When it comes time to take vitamins each morning, have you ever thought twice about vitamin E? If you're like me, then probably not. I knew vitamin E existed, but I didn't know about its plethora of health benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic, vitamin E "is a nutrient that's important to vision, reproduction, and the health of your blood, brain, and skin." Vitamin E also serves as an antioxidant in that it helps protect your body against damage from free radicals.

You might be asking yourself, what's a free radical? Free radicals are "molecules produced when your body breaks down food or is exposed to tobacco smoke and radiation. Free radicals might play a role in heart disease, cancer, and other diseases," according to the Mayo Clinic.

Vitamin E is commonly found in many foods we eat, such as spinach, broccoli, almonds, and peanuts. It is often part of your typical multivitamin, but for those who need an additional boost, there are many vitamin E supplements to choose from. Next time you're at the pharmacy, health supply store, or just shopping online, keep an eye out for these to add to your current health regimen.

Note: When looking for a supplement, be sure to read the labels carefully to find one that best suits your needs. It's also recommended to talk to your doctor before taking anything new so they can help provide some suggestions on brands, formulas, dosing, etc.
