Cara Delevingne Wants You to Embrace Your Sexuality

Cara Delevingne already wears so many hats, but now she's adding co-owner to her résumé. The actress and model is joining sexual wellness and technology company Lora DiCarlo as co-owner and creative advisor. The brand creates innovative and inclusive sexual wellness devices, with the goal of empowering others to explore and embrace their sexuality and break down the stigma and shame around sex.

In her new role, Delevigne will work with founder Lora DiCarlo on creative content development and overall brand strategy. She'll also work on marketing campaigns, product development, and more. It's a big task, but Delevingne has been so outspoken and honest about her own sexuality before, so it seems like the perfect fit.

We got the chance to chat with Delevingne and DiCarlo about this new partnership and how they want to change the way people think about sexual wellness. Here's what they had to say.

What inspired you to join the company as co-owner?

Cara Delevingne: Lora DiCarlo represents so much of what I stand for—it's women led and femme focused, and its award-winning products are really redefining how people explore, experience, and take ownership of their sexuality and pleasure. Lora has made such a name for herself as someone who, more or less, defies the norms in terms of what is expected, and I just have immense respect for her and her company.

What do you hope to accomplish in your new role?

CD: In my new role as co-owner and creative advisor, I hope to use my voice and platform to inspire and encourage others to embrace their sexuality and be open to learning more about sexual wellness. I want to hear via text (310-421-0894) what people like about the product, what they want us to improve on, what products they want to see or feel are missing from the market.

Sexual wellness can be a "taboo" topic. Why do you think it's so important to make the conversation about it so much more public?

CD: I think the sooner we as a society start talking about these types of things, the less intimidating it becomes.

What do you think is missing in the sexual wellness space/industry? What kind of barriers do you hope to break?

CD: I find that there's still a stigma around sexual wellness, so I hope to help break down those walls and barriers and show that it's a topic we can openly discuss and explore.

How do you take care of your own sexual wellness?

CD: You know RuPaul's famous quote "If you can't love yourself, how the hell are you going to love anyone else"? I think the same applies for pleasure.

Do you have any advice for women who might be exploring their own sexuality and sexual wellness?

CD: Don't be afraid to ask questions, be open, and understand that sexual exploration isn't a one-time deal—it's a journey.

Do you have any favorite products from Lora DiCarlo?

CD: They're all really fantastic. My favorite currently is the Baci.

Why is Cara such a great partner for your company?

Lora DiCarlo: To her, and to us, it was never about just being a spokesperson. She's so excited about getting to know the humans that make up Lora DiCarlo and working with our engineering and marketing teams. She is already highly engaged. The short of Lora DiCarlo's mission is to destigmatize the taboos surrounding sexual health and wellness in broader society today. Cara is unapologetic, approachable, comfortable in her individuality, and she champions the cause of women's sexual health.

What do you hope to accomplish by having her on board?

LD: Mainstream awareness, data collection, and reaching out to her very engaged community for feedback. Her product and creative input are exciting to see, even early in our partnership. We have some game-changing ideas we're cooking up, and Cara is absolutely here for it.

Sexual wellness can seem "taboo" or inaccessible at times because it’s taboo. How are you hoping to change that?

LD: After our CES Innovation Award in robotics was stripped from us and then reinstated after a hard-fought battle and some show policy changes, sex tech started moving into the mainstream by being recognized on the show floor for the first time. Our partnership with Cara will look to further our goal of bringing sex out of the closet. We work with a lot of micro- and nano-influencers that have a really high level of engagement within their community to normalize sexual wellness as well. Every externally facing person at the company will be a certified sexual educator come February, including myself and Cara, and we're angling to add the entire company roster to that list of certifications eventually.

Can you give any predictions or hopes for sexual wellness in 2021?

LD: I know we're going to continue to break into mainstream spaces. Whether it's in 2021 or it takes longer, we'll keep marching on. Truly, my hope is for those folks that are disastrously ashamed or even disgusted by sexuality to feel even a tinge more comfortable with the subject… That's when the real work starts, after the tiniest step.

Do you have any advice for women who are exploring their sexuality and sexual wellness?

LD: Be kind to yourself. You are normal exactly the way you are. You are beautiful exactly the way you are. You are a sexy creature. Pleasure is for you, and it’s for everyone. Be gentle. Take it slow. Don’t have any expectations or preconceived notions about what is "supposed" to be sexy—you do you, babe.
