The Secret Pastime That Helps Twin DJs and Entrepreneurs Coco and Breezy Unwind

It's no secret that we love a good morning routine. We've come to learn, however, that the rituals we do to wind down before bed are just as important. Whether you take 10 minutes or a few hours, it's precious time that you have set aside at the end of the day to take care of yourself. Our series Weekend Wind-Down highlights the nightly routines of the people we admire.

As DJs, music producers, and co-founders of their namesake eyewear line, twin sisters Coco and Breezy have innate abilities to bring the party wherever they go. While the duo has fine-tuned the art of a pump-up routine as part of their professions, carving the time to wind down and recharge is equally important to their overall well-being.

A can't-miss pastime in their self-care practice? Video games. It’s so important to both Coco and Breezy that the pair have joined forces with Queens Gaming Collective, a female-driven gaming organization, to advocate for inclusivity and gender equity in the industry.

It gets dark so damn early during the winter that we try to keep it lively in our home once the sun goes down. We head out to our heated outdoor patio and blast fun music and get ready to wind down the day together. Outside of our own music (LOL, just kidding), our favorite artist to currently wind down to is Zae France. We are obsessed with his sexy R&B music. Our favorite song at the moment is "LemmeDriveDaBoat.” Not trying to sound like fangirls over here, but we are now IG friends :).

While we listen to Zae, we sip on our favorite wine, Lyons Wine, which is our friend's company. We make it a priority to support small, especially Black-owned, businesses.

After a few glasses of wine, we take on the hardest decision of the day. Do we cook, order in, or go out for dinner? We’ve been doing a mix of taking out and cooking.

Our favorite place to order takeout from is Souley Vegan. We love it because it’s soul food, and we love supporting another Black-owned business. We enjoy the greens and candied yams, which is a traditional food that we grew up cooking with our dad. Even though there’s no meat, we love the good flavors.

We have slowed down on ordering in and now are cooking a lot more because we’ve recently become fully vegan. Our specialty is vegan chili-cheese nachos. They are sooo good that we had them twice this week!

Game time! After dinner, we jump online and start playing video games. We’re currently crushing it at Call of Duty—that’s our jam, and it consumes our lives! We love that we can play and interact with our friends, and it’s a nice release from everyday life. We also like playing Warzone, and we like that it includes problem solving and team building.

Plus, there’s this amazing squad of gamer women that we just joined up with called Queens Gaming Collective that’s all about challenging the status quo and leveling the playing field so that women feel more welcome in the space. Women actually represent nearly half of the entire gaming population worldwide, but the whole industry speaks entirely to men. Listen, it’s anyone’s game, and we are here to stay! We’re super honored to be rocking with the Queens crew.

We usually get hungry again while or after we game and have a nighttime snack. Our go-to is granola, fruit, nuts, or a smoothie. Our favorite smoothie has bananas, strawberries, and other berries with sunflower butter, ashwagandha, coconut oil, Moringa, and coconut milk blended together.

We are both night owls, so you’ll rarely see us in bed before midnight! But as the night winds down, we make sure to stick to our beauty routine, which includes a lot of lotions and potions! Even though we are twins, we have different go-to products for our hair.

Breezy: I have locs, so I spray my hair with water and essential oils and then tie my hair scarf or put on a bonnet. I use a mix of peppermint oil, avocado oil, and/or coconut oil.

Coco: I have a curly fro. I usually put my hair in a pineapple with my hair scarf on and then go to sleep.

When it comes to our skincare routines, we love to do it together—that’s like our thing. We used to rush our skincare routine, but we now take our time between each step, so we know the products actually soak in. Our current favorite skincare brands include Fenty Skin and Tata Harper.

We like to listen to music when we do it. It inspires us, so we won’t rush. We’ve recently started listening to Londrelle. His songs are about gratitude, self-awareness, and positivity. We like to listen to light-hearted music at night that makes us feel good and relaxed.

Bedtime! Big day tomorrow and lots of prep work to do for our new eyewear launch that’s just around the corner. We are so grateful for how busy we’ve been, but we're definitely exhausted and need our beauty rest.
