I Co-Founded a CBD Company for Women—Here's My Sleep-Centric Morning Routine

What's the first thing you do when you get out of bed in the morning? A well-rounded morning routine sets the tone for the day and gets you prepped—both mentally and physically—before diving into a packed schedule filled with emails, chores, happy hours, workouts, and more. Our series Morning Person profiles those who have mastered the art of the morning routine.

Tune in every Monday morning here and on our Instagram to learn exactly how the pros get it all done before the sun comes up, from their go-to breakfasts to their a.m. workouts.

Be honest here. How many times a week do you find yourself at bedtime endlessly scrolling on Instagram or playing the next episode on Netflix when you know you should be closing your eyes and drifting off to dreamland? For me, I'd say it's three nights out of seven at minimum. If you're not so good getting to bed on time and making sure you get enough sleep, Coco Meers's morning routine might leave you inspired. The co-founder of Equilibria, a CBD brand whose products are formulated especially for women, prioritizes sleep for balanced mornings. Check out how she starts her day below.

I am a morning person because I prioritize sleep and then embrace the chaos of the mornings as best I can. As a working mom with two young kids at home and a high-growth wellness startup to manage, this hectic time with no boundaries can certainly make for chaotic mornings. I try to inject as much balance as possible with a commitment to sleep and creating structure wherever possible.

In addition to my daily dose of CBD, getting a good night’s rest sets me up to make the most of my morning routine. My ability to wake up clear-headed and ready for busy days is directly correlated with getting eight hours of sleep. When I've had a later night, prioritizing sleep will mean the morning routine is crunched, with limited time to tend to self and family before jumping in (but that's all part of the balancing act).

As I head to bed, I ground myself in a routine to help ease into a restful night's sleep. I start with 20 milligrams of Equilibria Daily Drops at dinner. Then I go through my skincare routine, ending with Beauty Counter's Overnight Resurfacing Peel. Right before my head hits the pillow, I use the Equilibria Calming Roller on my temples and pop in my much-needed earplugs. They help me block out any noise and give me assurance that I will have uninterrupted rest, and it's a cue to my body that it's okay to really turn off.

I hop on my Peloton (if I have time!) before kids wake up, even if it's for 10 minutes to clear my head.

I wake up my kiddos, enjoying every minute of being present with them and getting lots of snuggles, and we make breakfast.

Right after breakfast, I take a 10-milligram Daily Softgel, which helps to keep me balanced throughout the day.

Social distancing "getting ready" may not be fully blown-out hair or heels, but I do try to hop out of athleisure for my days working from home. A bold red Chanel lip gets me in the mood to get shit done. Red power lip!

And last but not least, I make my Nespresso at-home latte and start a one-minute commute upstairs to get started on my workday with my amazing team.
