This Podcast Host and Producer Has a Wellness-Focused Night Routine on Vacation

It's no secret that we love a good morning routine. We've come to learn, however, that the rituals we do to wind down before bed are just as important. Whether you take 10 minutes or a few hours, it's precious time that you have set aside at the end of the day to take care of yourself. Our series Weekend Wind-Down highlights the nightly routines of the people we admire.

Morgan Lynzi doesn’t have time for BS—she’s too busy building Well Damn, a platform and community for an empowered generation. The TV personality, content and event producer, and, most recently, podcast host is using her influence for good by amplifying the voices of emerging cultural leaders and young activists. On her podcast, she dives into issues of wellness, culture, and activism and encourages young people to enact real change in their own right.

With a demanding career and mission, Lynzi knows the importance of winding down and recharging herself so that she can continue to fight and advocate for a better future. Keep reading to see how her wellness-focused evening routine helps to empower her.

5 P.M.

I’m coming to you live from a mental-wellness staycation at The Hoxton, Downtown L.A., but the first thing I usually do after a full day is wash my face. Water, symbolically (and quite literally), is a reset, and I love using it to cue a new tone for my evening.

My favorite products to use are Moon Juice’s Milk Cleanse ($32) with its Cosmic Cream ($58) and then, a few times a week, I’ll use the Farmacy Honey Potion ($56) or Youth to the People’s Superfood Skin Reset Antioxidant Mask ($44), which feels like a green juice on my face.

To top the ritual off, I apply Egyptian black seed oil with my gua sha for the combined effect of boosting my immune system, reducing inflammation, and supporting lymphatic drainage.

5:15 P.M.

It's important for me to get in some form of movement in the evening after a day spent up in my head planning, emailing, and creating for Well Damn and my personal projects.

I’m an Aries, so forward momentum is my favorite thing, but I’ve found that jumping from nonstop work into something like a HIIT workout just leads to anxiety later due to the cortisol spike. So I prefer to do a brisk walk or a grounding pilates workout with my Bala equipment to really bring me back into my body and get my blood circulating while also releasing tension from the day.

After, I’ll shower and jump into the kitchen.

6:30 P.M.

I don’t have a kitchen with me on this staycation, but I did prep my dinner the night before to share since cooking and baking are my favorite forms of therapy and another creative outlet that really helps to ground me.

My go-to dinner is usually something stewed and nourishing, and tonight it’s Jamaican ital stew that brings together my West Indian, Indian, and plant-based roots all in one. I’ve started making my meals in the Caraway Dutch Oven ($125) because its cookware line is free of chemicals, and the size of it allows me to make a big batch I can savor throughout the week.

7 P.M.

One of my evening priorities is to check in with myself. Sometimes that's in the form of meditation. Sometimes it’s with a tarot or oracle deck, journaling, or an intuitive practice.

Tonight, I’m using a really beautiful deck called Our Tarot that features impactful women throughout time with a book that goes in-depth about their contributions as well as how their narratives may inform and empower your life.

8 P.M.

This is my favorite time to get in supplements and overnight treatment because night and dreamtime is when your body is doing its repair and replenishment work.

My go-tos are Moon Juice's magnesium powder that helps to relax muscles (and keeps you regular), Flora’s probiotic, and sometimes a blackstrap molasses packed with magnesium and iron or a peppermint fennel latte with flax milk. Both do wonders for your digestive and nervous systems.

When it comes to beauty, I like to add some oil, like Gisou’s, to my hair if it’s feeling dryer so that it can get the hydration it needs.

10 P.M.

Obviously, this is an ideal scenario. It doesn't always happen if I’m having anxiety from the day, so to help keep me on a sleep schedule, I usually reach for weighted tools like my Nodpod weighted eye blanket or an actual rice- and lavender-filled heating pad. I love both because they feel like a more targeted weighted blanket and get me relaxed for sleep.
